I bashed goals a lot earlier this week, but please realize what I hate about “goal setting” is not a stance to not set goals, it’s simply that we often use them the wrong way. Often dreams fade away simply because people aren’t willing to tolerate the short term pain necessary to reach long term goals. I distinctly remember feeling this way when I did accomplish neat things, like running up to the practice field in the snow, my feet throbbing from the hours upon hours of practice (that day) and thinking why the hell am I doing this? But when you love something there’s no real answer, you just keep going.
Nike really nailed that slogan, Just Do It…
On the flip side too, if we don’t love something enough, we quit. We find something easier, or more “me” and we jump on it, the dreams drifting away like a tornado. So what will we stick with? What will we love?
Step one to identifying what we love is setting initial goals. Remember we can’t get to a plan B UNLESS we start! So set the BIG Goals for your life journey.
These are esoteric, but raw #NOFILTER … very overarching, big dreams stuff and the next step is to set smaller tasks, but for now put your money where your mouth is and write the big stuff first!
