Thinking it’s been done before prevents a lot of people from getting started. In a way, it’s the opposite of playing copycat. But it’s definitely one of the main ways that people hide from their goals and dreams. We pick an industry, space, or two and we think, “o.k. now how do I make this my own?”
Trying to make your project unique quickly becomes how do I make mine stand alone? That’s very difficult and in reality, probably impossible. Even starting a company to build rocket ships to mars wouldn’t be unique.
Almost everything has a similar version that someone else has done before. In fact, it’s almost impossible to do something 100% original. But, remember, great artists steal. And this is a world of abundance, so the more the merrier.
The more that you put into the world, and the less you see it as a competition, the more opportunity will come your way. The real goal should be to learn from others while finding a few differentiating factors. Finding a few ways to make it stand out. And the best way to do this, the easiest way, is to know your values. And never waiver from them.
So, let’s face it. It’s been done before is just a fact. Now what are you going to make?
