Important Interruption

JKLTip Be cautious when you go looking to a resource, you are in control

Almost everything has varying degrees to which it is healthy, or helpful and a point where too much is not a good thing. The self help industry is a classic example of this, and it’s important we take pause to realize that. While it can be outstanding, interpreted wrongly, or used with poor expectations such reading, video and audio can have the opposite effect
.
Probably most concerning of all, is that some self help really over simplify mental health, leading people to believe they can “think their way out”. We must connect to others, not “self limit”, we also need to have frameworks, applicable across circumstances. As someone who preaches messages of growth mindset and resilience, I feel it my responsibility to take pause every now and then to keep our self-help hope in check
.
Taking a few of the proven books and re-reading them can be just as helpful, like Last Lecture, 7 Habits, Man’s Search for Meaning, Power of Now, Atomic Habits, or Think and Grow Rich. When applying non fiction, self help to your life, remember:
* Real Life is Much More complex
** Information is often the same, said in a different way
* The learning of the author, or information provided may be irrelevant to your situation
** Growth happens way, slower than a book would have you believe
* Taken out of context, even great stories have little authentic value
