#jkltip Know your numbers. Be very aware, at least of the statistical estimation of the weeks you have left, and use each one the best way you know how
** I just first want to clarify, I am not naive to what some of our tribe is going through. It’s never easy and each one of us have loved ones added to the list of those gone before their time each and every day. It can be difficult, is difficult, and everyone heals according on their own path and time. I do understand, I’ve lost a number of students and friends in the last couple years, heck one is surrounded by family in hospital as we speak and I know as well as anyone this reality exists. All the more reason for us to face the topic, together, head on. So thank you **
Live Like You Were Dying
Without death, living would be inconsequential, everything boring, challenges that don’t matter, nothing ever worthwhile. Yet in life, this could not be further from the truth.
Scientifically speaking there is a straightforward number of weeks a human male is expected to live = 3,648. A person who understands this well is Jesse Itzler, the 100 mile man. He used to write, every single day how many days he has “left” on his arm, simply as a reminder. He speaks to the fact that others found it “depressing” but that it’s not, if we use it as the hack to stay present, have perspective and live fully.
When we say something like “oh that week just flew by”, how often do we say it like it’s a good thing? Ya know, “phewww, the weeks are just flying by, will be summer vacation before we know it” (for example). Well, without constant awareness of the imminent reality of death, this is how we operate, always projecting to the future, or searching our past.
So, when you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think of my favorite song…
