JKLTip Think critically about your mentorship game. Ask who is the one person you feel you could be most helpful to? Who would you like to ask advice from?

BE a Mentor, BE Mentored
?‍♀️?‍⚕️?‍??‍??‍??
Being a mentor is giving back, and the largest myth is that it’s not for everyone. The reality is we put a bubble around our insights, because we think our story, our information isn’t valuable. I went a very long time struggling with when to give advice (which was never) and when to just listen. But then two things happened.
One, I received feedback from colleagues, friends and family that the advice I give helps them out. That was confidence boost number one, and while it was close to pushing me into the world of sharing, it wasn’t enough. Two, was realizing that my story, my insights would be good enough (at least for some) and that I am losing the memories of advice that loved ones left for me. With each passing day, intimate tidbits they shared, that I tucked away, like a philosophy of life pocket knife fade, and I forget. There is so little permanence to what we have, what we think, what we can share.
⏳⏳So the fix, is the unbelievably simple and efficient way to leave a treasure chest for my daughters, or anyone else should they choose to open it if they chose to answer the question what would dad do?
There is a misconception that once we rise to the top of the “game” we no longer need mentorship. There is not one of us; not Justin Timberlake; not Justin Trudeau; not Justin Bieber; not Justin Nolan, who doesn’t need mentors. If we stop and reflect there is a belief that once we reach a pinnacle we become the mentor. Or that the “less qualified, less experienced” can not be the mentor.
?‍♀️?‍♂️You’ll find it hard to get mentorship from others if they feel you are more qualified, but I feel we have a duty to seek it out in people. Mentorship is such a two way street, working with others we learn a lot too, sometimes without even knowing it. We learn about life, about supporting others better, or often times about ourselves.
