JKLTip How can you put yourself in situations to feel more foolish in pursuit of your dreams and goals?
If we start pursuing something that will become remarkable, something worth talking about, then we will have been a great big fool in the beginning. The key is to become a fool as soon as possible, the sooner we put ourselves in situations that we feel like a clown, the better because it means we are in a position to learn exponentially.
The only way to learn is to be a clown at first. It’s not easy, in fact it’s really tough, but it’s worth it, and it is simple. So why do we put off being a fool? I think it’s because we think we can never catch up, we feel we don’t have enough time to start, or we worry too much about what other people think.
When I help people looking to make a change, aspiring to get to their next level, it’s often the case that they actually know quite clearly what they want. Think about it. Close your eyes and envision; what does your dream work, life, balance look like? Where are you, what has brought you success? Usually that is the easy part. The hard part comes when I say that the first step is to become uncomfortable in that pursuit.
At the beginning of greatness is a lot of discomfort, but if we won’t become a clown for a bit, then we basically have a zero percent chance of accomplishing what we would love. If it fulfills us, it won’t be because someone did it for us, or we received a hand out. If we do it ourselves, learn things ourselves, make the mistakes ourselves, en route to achievement we will have been a fool many times over. It’s in this stage we learn and if we start to feel like a clown, it’s a hint we’re getting closer to realizing the big dream.
