Wonder Like A Kid

Wonder, kids, little girl, mindset, always learning
Just Start Wondering
#jkltip Carve out time, at least once a week, to get out somewhere, anywhere, with anyone, or on your own and turn your mind off, do whatever your gut and heart tell you to do, just like a kid

We would all be better off to wander and wonder like a kid.

Like any young family, we have children’s books lying around the house, like any good parents we read with the kids. One day my wife was looking through an “I Spy” Book and commented “I used to love these when I was a kid”

She then proceeded to look through the book, page by page, searching, item after item, completely engaged, page by page until she found all of the things hidden in the book.

This stood out to me, not because she completed the finds and the clues, but because of this idea that we “loved things as a kid”, like playing floor hockey, building a fort, going to the park (all day) and hide and seek.

Somewhere along the way we lose our sense of childlike wonder, our sense of excitement over the things we do. But it’s not gone, it’s just being covered up and it reveals itself in moments like these, with a look & find book.

“Don’t grow up, it’s a trap”

Whenever I see this quote from Peter Pan on a poster, or t-shirt, I think of how awesome it is, but how hard it is to follow because we have responsibilities, duties, things we have to do. I also wonder if it is a trap, then who, or what is trapping us?

I don’t know the answer to this, but what I do know is that it’s true and many of us are hypocritical. We have mugs, t shirts, posters and email signatures with this saying, yet turn right around and long for the day we get to run in a park again, get through our stack of emails, or wish for a time to play with friends.

When we were kids, our games of hopscotch, colouring books and snowball fights took place without a second thought, no judgement, simply trusting that our gut and heart knew what to do next. As adults you have to turn your mind off and only then can you go with your gut, but if you do you won’t regret it.
